Dr. Jakir Hossain’s Creative Writings On Art & Painting

The colour of my sorrow is permanent black.   /   The colour of my hatred is purple hue.

The colour of my disbelief is yellow ochre.   /   The colour of my doubt is burnt sienna.

The colour of my love is sap green   /   The colour of my dream is cobalt blue.

The colour of my devotion is titanium white.   /   The colour of my pleasure is rainbow dye.

My art and painting, I believe, will give delight and cheerfulness to the viewers. Methinks, if the spectators get more pleasure than artist – then the arduous practice by the artist is much more successful and gratified. So, for the creation of effective fine arts, the artist is to make his personal imagination universal. If I can make my art impersonal, if I can make my artistry divine, uplifting from my personal feelings and intuition, only then that creation is endowed with all virtues and unanimously accepted – that piece of art gives immense celestial delight to those capable of comprehending the inner significance of true creation. Whatever be the subject, the medium and the procedural discourse – if the connoisseurs and witty viewers cannot earn the true purport from that, then wrangling and contention may be initiated about that creation whether that is true work of art or not. Viewers with their intensity and profundity of sense-perception enjoy the visual art painted by the picturesque imagination of the artist. But, if the thoughtful viewers do not get enjoyment having seen the artistical and mental affliction for the lack of engrossing charm of creative faculty by means of which the personal philosophy of art becomes universal. The creation thrown up from the superficiality of the view of artist’s life can never give boundless joy to the spectators. The ultimate truth cannot be established unless we can realize the true spirit of our life. For the fulfillment of the lack of perception, so, the artist is to dive into the agitated and aggrieved river of life. He is to collect gems and jewels from the bottom of the river of life for the doctrine and diversity of great creation.
