Dr. Jakir Hossain Laskar, PhD

Stop taking alcohol and nicotine – Give up smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages at the earliest to function your immune response properly.

Do moderate exercise everyday – Brisk walking, bicycling, jogging, swimming, etc. promote the healthy turnover of our body immune cells.

Eat rainbow vegetables – Colourful fruits and vegetables are full of anti-oxidants which guard against harmful free radicals and enhance positive immune response. Eat orange, broccoli, kiwi, strawberries, carrot, avocado, etc.

Limit your sugar intake – Added sugar leads to overweight and obesity which may suppress our natural immunity.

Manage your stress – Prolonged pathological stress and anxiety suppress our immune cell function. We can lower our stress levels through yoga, pranayama, meditation and other mindfulness practices. Laughter can also reduce stress; so read and listen good jokes which trigger our sense of humour.

Avoid processed foods and drinks – Processed foods compromise our body immune system seriously, which include artificial preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, texture enhancing chemicals, artificial colours and flavours, mono-sodium glutamate (MSG), synthetic trans fats, refined carbohydrates, etc. so, avoid junk foods, sugary soft drinks, pastry, frozen pizza, juice cocktail, etc.

Get adequate sleep – Poor quality sleep leads to higher susceptibility to sickness. Plenty of good quality sleep may strengthen our natural immunity system.
